  2.                  Installation and Startup Guide

  4. This guide covers installation and startup of OASIS for Windows.
  5. The complete User's Guide is built into the program and is
  6. accessed by selecting the "Help" option.  In order to get the
  7. most benefit from this program, we strongly suggest that you read
  8. the user's guide.
  9.  
  10. What is OASIS?
  11.  
  12.      OASIS (OWL Automated Sales and Invoicing System) is a
  13.      complete sales management system that includes: invoicing,
  14.      automated billing, customer correspondence, mailing list
  15.      management, and sales tracking.  OASIS Features:
  16.      
  17.      *    Intuitive menus that minimize typing.  For example, to
  18.           create an invoice you simply choose the customer and
  19.           products sold from a series of menus.  OASIS fills in
  20.           the invoice and computes the sales tax for you.
  21.      *    Customer tracking.  Customer profile reports show each
  22.           customer, the items they have purchased and the dates
  23.           each item was purchased.
  24.      *    Sales tracking.  Product sales reports give a complete
  25.           picture of the products that are selling and those that
  26.           are not.  The Buyers report shows you the names of
  27.           customers who have purchased a particular product.
  28.      *    Mailing list management.  Customers can be separated
  29.           into up to 100 groups. Mailing labels and mail merge
  30.           files can be generated for any combination of one or
  31.           more groups of customers.  This feature lets you target
  32.           your mass mailings to just those customers who are most
  33.           likely to respond to a given mailing.
  34.      *    OASIS can be configured to automatically compute two
  35.           sales taxes (e.g., Canadian GST and PST).
  36.      *    Income data entered into OASIS can be imported into OWL
  37.           Basic Bookkeeping to provide complete tracking of both
  38.           sales income and business expenses.

  40. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
  41.  
  42.      OASIS requires Microsoft Windows 3.1 or above, a hard disk
  43.      and 4 MB of memory.
  44.  
  45. Upgrading from OASIS for DOS.
  46.  
  47.      The Upgrade Data option under File/Setup converts OASIS for
  48.      DOS data for use with OASIS for Windows.  When installing
  49.      OASIS for Windows, DO NOT install it in the same directory
  50.      where your DOS version of OASIS is installed.

  52. Upgrading from an earlier Windows version.
  53.  
  54.      Before installing this version use your present version of
  55.      OASIS to make a backup disk of your data.  In the File menu
  56.      choose the Backup Data option to make the backup disk.  This
  57.      is a precautionary measure.
  58.      
  59.      During the installation process you will be prompted to
  60.      choose either "Full Installation" or "Upgrade Installation."
  61.      If you choose "Upgrade Installation" your present data files
  62.      will be preserved.  If you accidently choose Full
  63.      Installation, your present data files will be overwritten
  64.      and you will need to choose the "Restore Data" option to
  65.      restore your backup data for use with the new version.

  67. Installation
  68.  
  69.      To install OASIS, use the Program Manager or File Manager to
  70.      run OASIW430.EXE.  For example, if you are installing from
  71.      drive A:
  72.      
  73.      1.From the Program Manager File or Win95 Start menu, choose
  74.        Run.
  75.      2.In the Run dialog box, type "a:oasiw430.exe" and choose
  76.        OK.
  77.      
  78.      The install program will allow you to select the drive and
  79.      directory where OASIS will be installed.  The default is
  80.      C:\owl_bus.  If you are reinstalling OASIS for Windows or
  81.      installing an updated version, use the same directory where
  82.      you originally installed the program.

  84.      The Install program creates a program group named "OWL
  85.      Business Apps" with icons for OASIS, OASIS User's Guide, and
  86.      README.

  88. RUNNING THE PROGRAM
  89.  
  90.      The data files shipped with the program are empty.  The
  91.      Getting Started section of the User's Guide contains a step-
  92.      by-step guide to program setup and creating your first
  93.      invoice.  To view this information double click the OASIS
  94.      User's Guide icon then select Program Setup under Getting
  95.      Started from the Table of Contents.

  97. TECHNICAL SUPPORT
  98.      
  99.      If you are unable to resolve a question or you have
  100.      difficulty running OASIS, please call us or send us a letter
  101.      describing the problem.  Include the exact text of the error
  102.      message (if any) and a complete description of the problem,
  103.      your computer system (computer, memory, graphics card, DOS
  104.      and Windows version, contents of CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT
  105.      files, etc.), the option you were running when the error
  106.      occurred and any supplemental data that you entered under
  107.      the option.  If possible, please also include a disk created
  108.      using the File/Backup Data option (your data will be held in
  109.      strict confidence).  We will investigate the problem and
  110.      respond as quickly as possible.
